🌾ᴀ ɢɪʀʟ ɪs ᴀ ʙᴏᴅʏ ᴏғ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ🌾
Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi

This book… I wish I could in this moment articulate to you just how beautiful Makumbi’s prose is paired with her ability to tell Kirabo’s story of growing up in Uganda, honoring her family, tradition, and exploring what being a “first woman” means for her future.

The Ugandan folklore is abundant in this novel, which is something I found myself absolutely wrapped in. Makumbi has created a masterpiece in ᴀ ɢɪʀʟ ɪs ᴀ ʙᴏᴅʏ ᴏғ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ.

One word review: MASTERPIECE

More thoughts coming soon. I’m still taking this one in. 💕

Thank you to @tin_house for the copy in exchange for my honest review.
